PHILOSOPHY
The Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics and Dance strives to teach children the sport of gymnastics, the art of dance, the sport of tumbling and trampoline, and cheerleading skills. We hope in the process that the children gain confidence, develop a strong work ethic, and most of all have fun! Our goal is to provide an exciting, positive atmosphere in which children can achieve success.
The Mattoon Academy is home to many sports. We offer both recreational and competitive classes for Girls Gymnastics, Dance, Tumbling & Trampoline, and Cheerleading. We have classes that begin for children 12 months and older.

MATTOON ACADEMY HISTORY
The Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics and Dance began in the summer of 1972. The first classes were taught in the backyard of Dawn Paulsons parents' home. Within the year, the classes were relocated to a building on Main Street in Windsor. With the help of her husband Dave, Dawn had increased the enrollment and added new equipment, and they found it necessary to move to Mattoon in 1975. They wanted to provide a more comprehensive program offering both recreational and competitive opportunities for students so in 1977 they built their first gym and dance facility at 320 N. 2nd Street. In the year 2002, and thanks to the support of the people of Mattoon and neighboring communities, they opened the building at 412 Shelby Ave, which is the largest gymnastics and dance facility south of I-80. Thanks to their dedication to the sport, the Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics and Dance still exists today. Although they enjoyed their adventure, they sold the business to Katie Kindermann in September 2007. Katie and her husband Matt are the current owners and are working hard to keep the Mattoon Academy history alive!
